Boycott TechCrunch

Before, TechCrunch was just mind numbingly vapid VC cruft and linkbait. This was irritating, but fortunately resolved by simply ignoring the garbage stream that TechCrunch likes to think is journalism.

Now, it seems they’ve moved onto a different level, a level you (like me, perhaps naively) might have hoped had a relatively small population in tech circles – that of the vulture media. This recent incident with Twitter’s internal documents being published by TechCrunch is a disturbing direction for a well known tech news source. It’s cynical. It’s without honour, or integrity, or anything you might like to think intelligent technophiles like Mike Arrington should have. So he didn’t publish absolutely everything. Big bananas, he should have published none of it.

I intend to move my passive ignoring of TechCrunch to an active boycott. That sort of behavior simply shouldn’t be tolerated by the wider tech community. Of course we’d like to know the internal politics and plans of our favourite websites; but that doesn’t give us a right to know their nascent plans. It’s just a really shitty thing to do.

You can read more about this situation here, here and on Twitter’s blog. For obvious reasons, I’m not linking to any TechCrunch articles :)
